Waitman Furbee originally established United Sound Service in 1934. The company provided some of the original Public Address Systems in the West Virginia area. Sound reinforcement for public speaking was very new at that time. All equipment was operated with vacuum tubes. The mobile amplifiers required a “vibrator” to make rough AC which could be stepped up to provide the required B+ for plate high voltage. Many of the systems that were originally installed throughout the Clarksburg area in the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s, were handled by United. Many churches, schools, and fraternal organizations throughout the area had systems designed by United Sound Laboratories as it was later named. |
